digi doesn't HAVE to mean paperless!

When I first saw the new digital lines of papers, I KNEW I had to have at least SOME of them!! I LOVE anything "office-y" that i can incorporate onto/into my layouts and projects. The ledger papers are absolutely wonderful, with nice variety for scrapbookers and other paper artists.  What can I really say about the  correspondence lines? they're AMAZING and I LOVE them! I have so many ideas of what I will/would like to do with these images. I'm going to show you what I did with a couple.

People often ask me how I put some of my layouts together, how I piece it all together for the finished project.  I thought I'd present to you a "show & tell" using a couple of the pieces from the digi lines.

I've also taken the liberty and showing you a couple more of the layouts I completed using these fantastic images!  feel free to ask any questions you may have!

TFL and ENJOY!

"metamorphosis"

Stlometa1 It's easy to print the digi images onto paper. I printed mine onto 81/2 x 11 cardstock and cut around the edge, giving me this beautiful paper to use in a hardcopy layout versus a digital.

Stlometa2_2 I placed my photo about halfway onto the paper, leaving the left side of the photo overhanging into "thin air" (just for now!)

Stlometa3 I positioned a transparent frame onto my photo, a tad off centred, giving it a bit more interest and visibility.

Stlometa4 I added a few smaller photos along the right side edge.

Stlometa6_2 I cut some butterflies from a piece of pattern paper. I used vintage stamens for their antennae.

Stlometa7 I added a few more butterflies into the "space".

Stlometa8I sewed a paper frame onto the layout "framing" off the smaller photos to the right side of the layout.

Stlometa10 I added a small strip of Hambly overlay behind the frame on the right side to support the frame and then added a  rub-on quote and a couple more butterflies. I then added another piece of printed paper from the "correspondence" line on the left side, "grounding" the layout.

Stlometa9_4 the almost completed layout. All that's left is the title.

Here's a few close-up views...

that's it for the SHOW & TELL!
Now here's a couple more layouts using the digi paper printed!

For this layout, i used 2 different "ledger" papers, the "orange 8x8" and a piece from the "correspondence" line.

digiWERX Induced Palpitations

ShabbychiccollectionAnd the only cure is to create.

My heart seriously skipped when I caught a glimpse of the new digiWERX Shabby Chic Collection. I've been itching to create some new wall art for my nearly-bare apartment walls and these papers are just what I've been waiting for. Don't ya just love that?

So far I've finished four layouts and I'm thinking I'll do two more before I send them off for printing. Then I may have to pull out the paint and find some funky frames to put them in.  Wicked Grin

My sis Kathy. Hmmm, wonder where she got that sarcastic wit. Ha!
PP: Floral Fire Engine Red
Digi Tip: Try using masks to highlight design elements and add layers to your LO. Start by duplicating the background pp and masking elements like scrollwork or flowers on the new layer. Then add new elements in between your layers of pp.

Fromtheday

~from the day~
My other sis Sara...a girl with gravity.
PP: Grape Fusion
Digi Tip: Experiment with blending modes when adding elements to allow your background pp to show through and recolor all in one step.

Growsandgrows

~grows and grows~
Both girls at Biltmore Greenhouse the week before Christmas.
PP: Pretty In Pink / Label: Vintage Ledger Journaling Spots
Digi Tip: Combine blending mode and masking techniques. Here I duplicated the label then used both masking and blending techniques to recolor it for a perfect match.

Skate

~skate~
And both girls ice skating at Wonderland of Lights.
PP: Coffee Stained
Digi Tip: Use the Select Menu --> Color Range tool to make complex selections around things like glitter.

I'll let you know when I get them framed & hung!

Art Journal, then Give it Away

I recently completed an art journal project as part of a University project. I created 56 journal pages and the covers for two art journals. It was more fun than I thought it would be. This was the first time I put that much effort into creating something I was not going to keep.

artjournalcover

The students in the Deconstructed Art class will each be assigned one of the pages in the book and they are going to complete the page with their journaling.

This project has definitely been one of the highlights of my creative life. That is what I love about art journaling, it is a great opportunity to explore and grow as an artist. If you have not started an art journal, consider doing it this year. It is one of the best ways to try out new art techniques.

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle -

Recycle_4

Not an original idea, obviously, but the possibilities are endless!
Go through your recycling box and gather up your scrap bits of paper, ribbon, stamps and paint and create Christmas gift tags.  I used old bits of card stock, coffee sleeves [great texture here] and granola boxes and then added paint, stamps, ribbon and chipboard – these can be as elaborate or as simple as you have time for!

Closeuptag_2

Another fun idea is to create magnets using your scraps.  I love these large glass pebbles – they're so quick and easy!  You could personalize them and create some unique stocking stuffers.

Sorry for the fuzzy photos - but you get the idea!

Recycle your scrap and trash and have a more 'green' Christmas –
Happy Holidays everyone!

holiday chipboard

A Christmas elf recently showed me a cute idea for ornaments that are quick and fun to make.   I was given a package of Bazzill Really BIG Chips and told to go play.

The following are the results.

Ornaments

Other products I used were My Mind’s Eye papers,  elements rubber stamp (funky holidays),  Staz-On ink, copper tape, Heidi Swapp chipboard letters, Stickles and assorted embellishments.

The edges of the stars were wrapped in copper tape, copper leaf or Stickles glitter.

Edges

Hang from your tree or use as tags on presents.  For this week’s team challenge, how about making a few of your own Christmas adornments. - Deb

which direction?

I always find "fall" to be the time of year to reflect on  where I am, where I've been and where the heck it is I want to be a year from now. It has hit me even more so this year because of my oldest daughter Jesyca...

She's had such a eventful, changing, wonderful year which ultimately brings change to all of our relationships with her. She turned 16 in June, she got her nose pierced, (which made her look so much older), she quit the soccer team she had been on for the past 3 years, leaving many friends behind. She tried out and made it on one of the top teams in her division. She chose her love of soccer and her desire to pursue her passion, but she had to give up so much...the biggest change of all? we have to share her now, she got her first boyfriend. YIKES!!!!

And through it all, she is becoming just an amazing young woman.

I only hope when she takes her next leap, its with complete and utter faith in her guardian angel, that her angel's wings will be strong enough to carry her through it all, no matter where she finds herself. And I hope I have the same belief and faith in her angel that i have always had in mine.

I made this little album for her to mark some of these big events happening every day.

Burn, Baby! BURN!

Most people know that I am a hardcore art journaler. A few months ago, I decided to try out some of the collage images available at the store and print a few of them on transparant film. Now, the fun part was burning those suckers with a lighter to give them a warped old look. Be warned, plastic stinks when it is burning. You only want to scorch the edges of your image for effect. They look awesome on my pages and I will definitely look at digital elements differently now that I have used them with transparancies.

Hallowe'en is HERE!!!

Time to whip up some funky little albums for all those photos you take EVERY YEAR!

I know I take hundreds of Hallowe'en photos because I love the fact that the kids look so funky every year and I don't want to miss those moments. The other thing about Hallowe'en is it acts sort of like a "history"..."what was in in 2005"  or "what was the HOT thing in 2007". What costume is cool this year? or last year? OR 10 years ago?

Doing a mini album using one of the Maya Road albums, is such a GREAT  place to keep those photos year after year...just keep adding some of the "highlight" photos every year and in a few years, when you look back, VOILA! you'll know what your kids OR YOU, were "into" that year!

So, here you go! Follow these easy schmeasy steps to creating a wonderful, TOTALLY FUNKY  little album!

IF you have ANY QUESTIONS...ANY AT ALL, post it in the comments and I PROMISE to answer any and all of them!
