more textile anthology...

since the first etsy kits are nearly sold out [wow! that was fast...] i thought i would add a few more to the mix in different colour palettes.

each kit will come with the same basics [see the etsy listing for complete details] and the embellishments will be adjusted to coordinate with the colour palette of the foundation fabrics. here are the new kit colour ways:

these kits do not come with the image transferring transparencies, fluid medium or transfer fabric. the textile anthology kits are made up of the patterned fabric seen here plus coordinating embellishments including thread, beads, ribbon, buttons, silk flowers, batting, image transferred graphics and interfacing.

tomorrow, i'll post some additional images and ideas about how to use these wonderful, textured and tactile fabric pages... in the meantime, happy stitching!

textile anthology kit no. 1

since i was restless last night...

i thought i would put together the first textile anthology kit for my etsy shop.

this new kit is based on the adjacent project and uses the yummiest fabric - it looks like scrapbook paper! the fabric features silhouettes of botanicals and butterflies in a palette of burgandy, light green, olive, black and white. accompanying this fabric is a soft green patterned square for the back of the piece.

the complete kit contains the following:

• 2 - 9"x9" squares of patterned fabric
• 1 - 9"x9" muslin square
• 1 - 8"x8" quilt batting
• 1 - small bags of loose quilt batting
• 4 large pre-transferred graphic images on linen fabric
• 3 - 9" strips of ribbon including grosgrain, velvet rickrack and pierced velvet
• velvet brads
• embroidery floss
• glazed button brads
• vintage mother of pearl buttons
• glass beads
• large color coordinated silk floral

additional kits in different colour palettes will be listed in the coming days, so if this one doesn't do it for you... give it a few days and i'm sure there will be something that does very soon.

if you are interested in having your personal images transferred onto the same linen used in the transferred word and tag graphics, please let me know. for a small fee i will size, print and transfer your images onto linen, then you can be assured that they will be perfectly transferred for your project.

new art and a gentle reminder...

new artworks are being finished this week for my first portobello west show of the year. yep... this coming weekend portobello west kicks off the season with a special two day opener [gulp!] and new spring themed artworks are filtering out of my studio daily.

here is a sneak peek at what you can expect to find at my portobello west booth...

these new works are still in the 'testing' phase and i only have a few to start... but if they sell well and the feedback is good, i'll be doing more!

at the art+fashion market i'll also have a limited set of my new book iconography. 10 signed, limited edition copies are available on a first come, first serve basis at the show. be sure to drop by on saturday to pick one up =)

as promised...

here are the first of 8 new pieces trickling out off the studio and off the studio table onto etsy!

i love these new pieces. petite, soft and infinitely girly they are the stuff of romantic notions and dreams of living a far more sophisticated existence than i ever could.

this evening i did something that i've been wanting to do for weeks... i finally hung  block of artwork [yes, shamefully only my own work - thank god my husband enjoys it and is super supportive] in the living room. 15 pieces! yep, 15. looks pretty freaking spectacular too. i've been living with them in the studio, but as i ramp up my art production for portbello west, i've had to make room for new pieces, and i just can't bear to box up my babies. so... after a little prodding and alot of help [thank god T is TALL] i hung all 15 pieces in 3 rows of 5. i'll post a pic later this week once i get me my new camera.

ok. yeah i'm spoiled sometimes. my hubby is super supportive of all my artistic endeavours. so much so that for valentine's day the amazing man bought me a new camera. an expensive one. but... it was way more expensive at the local future shop than online, so we took back the original camera - unopened [can i just say how PAINFUL it was knowing that the camera was sitting on the dining room table begging to be opened and used - pure torture] and purchased one online. it was supposed to arrive today, in point roberts. it didn't. i was so disappointed. sad even. so a spectacular photo of my artwall will now have to wait until later in the week.

in the meantime... here is some pretty, girly eyecandy to enjoy [and buy - hint hint, nudge nudge]

exciting news on the horizon...

my bloggy absence this week now has an explanation...

after much consideration and encouragement, yet again by DH terry, the stars have aligned and it's happening... i've decided to release a limited edition coffee table book of my recent mixed media collage portraits!

it's an 80 page, full colour book, measures 7x7 and is crammed with full colour versions of all my mixed media collages. cool huh?

i though it would be a fun thing to do and and something i've wanted to do for a long long time.

in the next few weeks, i'll be listing my first group of limited edition paperWERXings: mixed media collage books on etsy. but, you'll see it here first, and once i have the actual books in my hands, sneak peeks will be available as well... i could show you the computer sneak peeks of the book now, but that would be cheating lol! you're just gonna have to wait, like me.

next on the horizon... finally self-publishing a 'how-to' book on image transfer. another item on my list of 'i want to do [this]'. maybe in the next month or so. watch for updates on that book coming soon!

new artwork on ETSY

been a busy and productive weekend arty-wise. i finished a bunch of new 8x8 canvasses and just finished listing them on etsy. i really like these and have tweaked my usual style a bit with the addition of vertical design elements. i like the effect and will continue to experiment with these ideas in the future.

just a quick note that i am signed up for all the portobello west [or the mushroom show as gen calls it] for the entire 2008 season. whew! that is a big commitment, but i welcome it with open arms and look forward to the challenge of creating new mixed media pieces on a regular and consistent basis. this is a big step for me so wish me luck at portobello this season!

the remains of the day...

my last public art showing of the year is now done, and for those of you interested, i've posted the new works in my ETSY store.

there are 20 new original artworks and in the coming week i'll be listing more pendants, fun adjustable ring, collector buttons and a few more small items.

i'm happy to say a few of my favorite pieces have gone collectively to new homes. deb, sorry to say the goth girls are gone =( but at least they were purchased by a couple who took all three and will undoubtedly give them a lovely new home. my blue and orange series is also now off to a good home, in fact to a fellow portobello artist - great news, i know she'll love them for a very long time.

the great thing about the remaining artwork is that now i have new pieces for MY walls at home. i love changing the artwork in the house over and around, and now i have my very own personal inventory to rotate. love that. terry also really enjoys the new pieces, so later tonight i'll be hanging a collection on my dining room wall... probably in a big mosaic style. yeah, there will be holes in the wall, but who cares? the artwork collection will be amazing!

as i creep towards 325 posts...

i can't believe in the last two years of steady[ish] blogging i'm almost at the 325 mark. who knew?

anyway... i have a sneak peek of some new artwork for my show tomorrow [or later today - depending when you read this]. i have about 12 new pieces in addition to a bunch of other new work left from the snowed-out show i was in two weeks ago. i really love these new pieces... i played with tinting my image transfers, then adding some illustrative details and love the subtle look of them.

good news! i finished the big piece all 24x32 inches of her. i love it. it's so big and has a slightly warholish vibe with the oversized image transfer. i'll be bringing it with me to portobello west tomorrow and will post picks of it here tomorrow... varnish is still drying so i've got to wait before i can standing it up for photographing.

oh, and just a little reminder folks... ALL my original artwork is handmade. no digital here. it's all the real macoy, down to the paint stained fingernail [so attractive!], varnish and paint splattered t-shirt and trashed, calloused fingernails and cuticles. they are labours of love and i hope you like them. i certainly do.
