Boo hoo...
So, in the words of Heidi Klum "I'm out!" ... of the MM Idol contest that is.
I knew that this is what would happen, I'm generally ok with that.
The MM Idol is, at the end of the 1st, 2nd and probably 3rd round, is in addition to a scrapbooking contest, a popularity contest. In the scrapbooking world, the more people you know, the more groups you belong to and the more you self-promote, the better you do in these contests. Just like the show the contest is modelled after, American Idol. Sometimes the better singers get voted off because the other ones have a larger fan base. I'm not saying that I deserve to be there more than someone else... but there is definitely potential for a really outstanding piece of work, from an unknown artist who could be overlooked simply because you cast a vote for your friend, sister, etc...
For the most part I'm pretty cool with that.
I don't frequent boards unless I'm lurking for a quick read when I have a few minutes to spare. I only post occasionally because I'm CRAZY busy most of the time and rarely get around to it. I don't hang out at the Peas often, again... no time, since I basically work TWO full-time jobs. So I admit, I fly under the radar most of the time, coming up for air to occasionally say 'hey, remember me?', and to be honest... I'm really fine about it.
The ONLY suggestions I have to the above is that in order to make the contest really fair, and take the popularity out of it, have the Top 50 post their entries ANONYMOUSLY so that the notariety of the participants is a non-issue [or at least a smaller one]. The other suggestion I would have for the contest is to give people the opportunity to vote for more than ONE person - like 3 to 5 people. This way you could still choose the known person/popular scrapper, and then maybe, just maybe, give some of the other participants who aren't as well known [if at all] a fighting chance. I know I personally would have chosen at least 3 layouts that were really outstanding [not my own] and in the judging scheme of things, I think it would make the whole contest a lot more interesting and challenging. Just a suggestion...
At the end of the day, I do have one thing to say about MM Idol and that is... I value and appreciate that they selected me to be part of the Top 50. It was encouraging and really validating to know that out of thousands of entries, one of mine stood out enough to be noticed and considered. For someone like me, who doesn't enter contests, that felt really really good! I'm really very honored to have made it that far. So, THANK YOU MM Idol!
To the Next 30... good luck! and keep up the great work. I'll be voting next week, and hope to see my favorite LAYOUT/PROJECT make it into the next round. You go girls!

I sooooo agree with everything you just said here, and I am shocked that you are not going on to the next round. Your layout ROCKED!!!
